TALA VILLAGE

Tala is an elevated village built at an average altitude of 280 metres above sea level although some areas are as high as 600 metres above sea level!  This is a prestigious prime residential area having the benefit of cool breezes throughout the summer making it less humid and more comfortable than other areas. Due to its elevated position Tala affords spectacular views reaching right down to the Paphos and Coral Bay regions. It is a traditional village with many old stone houses, tavernas and coffee shops, not to mention a village square where the older male residents can be seen playing their game of Tavli – more familiarly known as backgammon. Close by is the St Neophytos monastery: founded around 1200 by the Cypriot hermit Neophytos, who carved out of the mountain the Encleistra (Enclosure) which contains some of the finest Byzantine frescoes to be found anywhere in Cyprus.
