ST. GEORGE - PEYIA DISTRICT
Agios Georgios or St. George as it is better known, lies 18 kms to the West of Paphos town. It is situated at the gateway to the unspoilt area of the Akamas peninsula which embraces the turtle hatchery in the beautiful Lara Bay. The main road into the village meanders down a steep winding hill which terminates by a small fishing harbour, alongside which is the small sandy Mandoulas beach. This is the place to be to experience the most amazing sun sets which will leave an indelible memory of a peaceful and romantic piece of Cyprus. As you look out across the harbour you become witness to the changing landscape, a rich tapestry of clear blue sea meeting with the brilliant white cliff tops of Lara bay and to the right, higher still, the forest and hills of Peyia. There are many walks which criss cross the cliff tops taking you toward the spectacular Sea Caves area in one direction, or in the opposite direction towards the beautiful natural sweeping sandy bays of Lara. For history lovers, there are several important archaeological sites in the immediate vicinity as well as an ancient church, caves, tombs built into the rocks and much more! Attractions nearby include a reptile park and the Paphos Bird Park, which is home to some of the wildlife indigenous to Cyprus. There are a number of traditional tavernas in which to enjoy the locally caught fish and other delectable Cypriot specialties. To search for available properties click here.
